If you have been invited to an important dinner party, you may be wondering whether of not very short skirts would be a matter of proper attire. There are some instances when very short skirts are proper attire for a dinner party and there are some instances when such attire simply should be out of the question.
An example of a dinner engagement at which very short skirts might be acceptable (note the word might) is a function that is in the form of a barbeque or a similar type of patio or tented gathering. Particularly during the summer months, shorter skirts are appropriate for meals that are being served out of doors.
However, as you will have noted, there is a caveat when it comes to wearing very short skirts to an out of doors occasion. You need to respect the sensibilities of your hosts, and to a lesser degree the sensibilities of the likely guests to such a function. For example, if the out of doors dining function is for a church or a church associated group, you might want to give serious thought to wearing a short skirt.
In most instances, unless you are invited to a pizza night at a friends apartment -- unless you are invited to a truly casual, almost spur of the moment function, you should give serious through to the wearing of very short skirts to a dinner. A shorter skirt likely would be acceptable. Indeed, there are some very fashionable and more formal dresses being designed that have shorter hemlines. However, a very short outfit may not be at all appropriate for a more formal or even less than casual dining event.
In the final analysis, when it comes to trying to decide when and where to wear very short skirts, common sense will be a helpful guide. As with any type of outfit, there is a time and place for very short skirts.
